Herribatza Dantzariak
Herribatza Dantzariak
Homedale, Idaho
The Herribatza Dantzariak group was started in 1980 by Gloria Garatea Lejardi and is going strong with the support of numerous families wishing to continue the Basque cultural traditions of music and dance. Dancing is the hook to get children interested and the hope is that they continue to explore and learn more about our Basque identity, especially our beloved Euskara. To that end, the group has a mini-Euskara lesson at the end of practice.
Herribatza means “a collection of towns” or a “cooperative” which is reflected in the make-up of the group consisting of 60 dancers, K – 8th grade, representing the towns of Homedale, Marsing, Melba, Wilder, Parma, Caldwell, Nampa, Fruitland, and Boise, plus Arock, Oregon! Gloria is assisted by Amaya Aguirre-Landa, John and Yasone Krakau, and Brennan Gabiola.
Eskerrik asko to Txoko Ona, Inc for allowing us to practice in the building and its continued support of the dancers. Eskerrik asko to all those musicians and dance intructors who came before us, who taught us, and inspired us to continue. Aurrera!
